I do not over-intellectualize the production process. I try to keep it simple: Tell the damned story. — Tom Clancy
Proofreading isn’t just about the proofreader. You, the author, have a part to play as well. Here is a list of things the Society for Editors and Proofreaders has put together that they think you need to know. You may or may not find it helpful.
It might seem more complex than it is. All you need to do, really, is make sure you understand what a proofreader does – and doesn’t do – and send me your work in as neat a layout as possible (as close to publication quality as possible). Other than that, I will supply you with a ‘brief’ template. This is basically just a short form (which takes about two minutes) that tells me exactly what you want (so that we’re both on the same page) and gives me a little more information such as UK or US spellings and whether you want -ise or -ize endings.
